Rewiring My Morning Routine

Rewiring My Morning Routine — Personal Growth article by Steve Ysreal Monas
Transforming my day in 30 minutes

I used to be one of those people who hit the snooze button repeatedly, finally dragging myself out of bed with just enough time to get dressed and rush out the door. My mornings were chaotic and stressful, setting a negative tone for the rest of the day. But I knew I needed to make a change. I wanted to start my day with purpose and energy, rather than exhaustion and anxiety. So, I decided to rewiring my morning routine, and it's been a game-changer. By dedicating just 30 minutes each morning to a consistent routine, I've been able to transform my entire day.

Identifying My Goals and Priorities

The first step in rewiring my morning routine was to identify my goals and priorities. What did I want to achieve with my new routine? What were my non-negotiables? For me, it was about creating a sense of calm and clarity, setting myself up for success, and making time for activities that nourished my mind, body, and soul. I wanted to start my day with a sense of purpose and direction, rather than feeling lost and uncertain. I took some time to reflect on what was truly important to me, and what I needed to include in my routine to make that happen.

I started by making a list of all the things I wanted to include in my morning routine, from exercise and meditation to journaling and reading. Then, I prioritized those activities based on their importance and feasibility. I knew I couldn't do everything, so I focused on the things that would have the greatest impact on my day. I also considered my lifestyle and schedule, making sure my routine was realistic and achievable. By being intentional and focused, I was able to create a routine that truly supported my goals and priorities.

Creating a Consistent Routine

Once I had a clear sense of my goals and priorities, I started creating a consistent routine. I began by setting my alarm clock 30 minutes earlier each day, and using that time to focus on my priorities. I started with a 10-minute meditation session, followed by 10 minutes of journaling, and finished with 10 minutes of reading or learning something new. It was a simple but powerful routine that helped me clarify my thoughts, set my intentions, and feel more grounded and focused. I also made sure to include some physical activity, whether it was a short walk or some light stretching, to get my blood flowing and energy levels up.

The key to making my routine stick was consistency. I committed to doing my routine at the same time every day, even on weekends or days off. I also made sure to be flexible and adapt to changes in my schedule or circumstances. Some days, I might have to skip my meditation session or shorten my journaling time, but I always tried to prioritize my routine and make time for the things that mattered most. By being consistent and flexible, I was able to make my routine a sustainable and enjoyable part of my daily life.

Seeing the Results and Making Adjustments

It's been several weeks since I started my new morning routine, and I've noticed a significant difference in my daily life. I feel more energized and focused, and I'm able to tackle challenges with greater ease and confidence. I've also noticed improvements in my relationships and overall well-being, as I'm more present and engaged in my daily interactions. Of course, there are still days when I struggle to get out of bed or feel like skipping my routine, but I've learned to be kind to myself and trust the process. I know that my routine is worth it, and that it's helping me become the best version of myself.

As I continue on this journey, I'm always looking for ways to improve and refine my routine. I'm open to trying new things and making adjustments as needed, whether it's adding a new activity or tweaking my schedule. The key is to stay flexible and focused on my goals, and to trust that my routine will continue to support me on my path to growth and self-improvement. By rewiring my morning routine, I've been able to transform my day in just 30 minutes, and I'm excited to see where this journey takes me next.
